After about eight months at Xanga, I'm going independent. I'm going to a new blog powered by WordPress.
It's really simple and has nothing right now, but in the near future
it'll be expanding, I guarantee it. So check it out.

http://da-Man.com/blog

So I hope you'll join me at my new home. It'll start looking cooler pretty soon, hopefully.

(I wanted to get da-blog.com but it seem some crazy PHP coder already beat me to it. lol!)
Friday, February 18, 2005

Mat Kearney is amazing. Seriously, you just need to hear
it. OK, so you can probably hear enough to know if you want to
get it on www.matkearney.com.

I found some cool new technology. Mozilla, the cool people that
brought me this nice browser Firefox (which still has a couple letdowns
to IE, but I still like it), bring a whole new way to create
applications. To develop the interfaces of all the Mozilla apps
easily across platforms, they created XUL.
This is a highly standards-compliant XHTML system that defines a whole
GUI and application. As long as you have Firefox or a couple
other programs installed on your computer, you can run any XUL
application, no matter if you're on Windows, Linux, other Unix, or Mac
OS, among others. You can do menus, pop-up dialog boxes,
etc. It seems to be pretty easy to code, and as long as you're
not using IE, it'll probably work. Who knows, if it gains more
popularity, then it'll probably be adapted to IE in about 20
years. Here's a cool example that allows you to search Amazon.com. If you want, you could download/install it on your system and run it outside of Firefox too. So check it out.

A friend and I have been talking about the upcoming Narnia movie and
the books. I was talking about how I hated the post-1994
numbering of the books, and here's yet another good link to propose why one should read the books in the order they were pubished for dramatic, purist effect.
Thursday, February 17, 2005

Well, I'm happy that happened. Last night I was looking at my
movie collection going, "I've watched all these in the last couple
months and there's none I want to watch right now." Luckily I
noticed Toy Story sitting in the back of the piles of movies, and
decided to watch that. And not only did I realize that I had some
quality movies to watch, but that I had lots of special features that I
hadn't watched too. For example, after watching it, I watched it
with a commentary.

Emery's good stuff. Pretty hard, but also very musical. At first I wasn't impressed, but after Bert wrote a nice review, I thought about 'em again. Speaking of which, I should post a couple new reviews for cMW this week.
Monday, February 14, 2005

I found some interesting stuff today. For example, there's a little black box that can predict the future and be influenced by others. An interesting scientific read, if I do say so myself.
Monday, February 14, 2005

I love this movie. It's such a fun time and even does give you
something to think about. The scary part is that within a year or
two of that movie releasing, they started running shows like
"Survivor". Scary.

I think I'm coming down with one of those flus or colds or
whatever. I hate it, I feel like doing nothing and feel
tired. It'll probably last for the next couple days,
unfortunately. And my throat and sinuses get all clogged
up. I know I should be doing some work, but there's absolutely no
motivation or energy to do them. It's no fun.

Oh yeah.... yesterday at a spiritual retreat with some friends I had
some great conversations about work and stuff. One of them might
turn into a job for a company, and while it might not be web design, it
may be programming that'll make a good living. Plus it's in an
industry that's booming right now... wireless Internet access.
The best part is I know three people who work at this company, which
still isn't too big, I think. So pray that those connections
would help and I could get a nice job!
Thursday, February 10, 2005

I couldn't find it on Amazon's playing now, but I'm listening to 4th Avenue Jones' upcoming Stereo: The Evolution of Hiprocksoul album. It's killer.

This afternoon I witnessed the documentation on the death of an art form. It was a 40-minute documentary called Dream On, Silly Dreamer.
Basically, it's the story of those hundreds of artists who used to make
Disney animated films. It starts where they're talking about the
80s and they were just making movies out of the trailers and warehouses
on the Disney campus. They were treated like nobody
special. Then, they created Beauty And The Beast, a big
blockbuster. Then, after Aladdin and The Lion King,
they were
treated like movie stars. But soon after, in early 2002, they
were all laid off because Disney found that 3-D animated movies were
making more money. Disney really downplayed it, but it is really
a tragedy. It was good to hear the stories of those who made
those magical movies and their tragedy. It's very well put
together, with some really fun animation filling in the story between
the interviews. Plus, it was a free screening, so it was way cool
to see an indie program. I hope a lot of Disney shareholders saw
this flick before going to the yearly shareholder conference in town
tomorrow. They need to hear what the executives won't tell them.
Wednesday, February 09, 2005

Alright, here's my links of a couple more articles and links mentioned on Slashdot recently:

Well, if you do, make sure it's somewhat secure.

Here's a story about what can happen if you're not. If I wanted to play around with a website, I could do most of this stuff too.
Monday, February 07, 2005

This is my favorite AudioA album. It rocks.

This morning the nominations
for the 36th Annual GMA Music Awards were announced. Not that
really anybody cares, but this is the point where we all exclaim either
"Who rigs these votes?" or "What are the GMA members smoking?" I
mean, seriously, nobody listens to Selah, Casting Crowns and MercyMe
are way, way overrated, and they couldn't find enough hip-hop songs so
they had to nominate two John Reuben songs!

I know, nobody here cares about Christian music. Well, I surely
don't care much about the Gospel Music Association's view of Christian
music, that's for sure. Totally out of it, that's all I have to
say.
Saturday, February 05, 2005

That's right, Never Take Friendship Personal. The label sent it, and I'm so glad they did. Anberlin soooo rocks! And, as usual, cool packaging from Demon Hunter's Asterik Studio.

Am I just paranoid, or do other people have the following problem?

This morning my sister called saying that my brother, a freshman at St. John's University, was going to be playing at St. Thomas,
the college from which I graduated this past May. He's only on
the JV, so the game started at 1pm. For some reason, though, I'm
kinda scared of the place now. I feel like I'm not suppoed to be
at St. Thomas because I don't live there and stuff. It feels
kinda like I'm invading days gone by. I was worried I'd see
somebody who knew me. No, wait, I was worried but also kinda
hoping I would see somebody too. It would be fun to catch up with
old times, but also kinda odd.

I think I know a couple of the problems. First of all, most of my
friends at UST know I've been looking for a job since I've graduated,
and I feel really bad saying that, since graduating in May, I still do
not have a job. Of course, I worked at UST through September, but
it's still a long time. Secondly, I'm afraid to approach somebody
that I think is somebody I know. Mostly because I'm
half-blind, I have a habit of seeing people and thinking they're
somebody I know. Usually they're not, but for me to tell, I
almost have to walk right up to them and say hi, which is a bit scary
to do. It makes it pretty darn obvious if I walk by a person that
I'm checkin' them out, and if it's not the person I thought it was,
that looks pretty suspicious.

So, after the game, I went to what is my closest thing to the place I
hung out on campus, my former work, the computer lab. I even
think that Colleen was working, but was too afraid to really look and
check. The place still looks the same as it did in September, so
it's all cool.

After that, I had a nice 50-minute walk from St. Thomas back to my house. It was nice, and I got to listen to the whole Lovedrug
CD while I walked, so that rocked. However, there's still way too
many puddles on the sidewalks... it's almost like walking through a
minefield.
